ROSEMONT - Despite a late rally from the Scrap Yard Dawgs, the Bandits pulled out a season-opening sweep with a 9-8 win on Saturday night.

"It's hard to [sweep an opponent] in this league . so to start off our season with that definitely sets the momentum to where we want to go," Morgan Foley (W, 1-0) - who made her National Pro Fastpitch debut - said.

The Bandits jumped out to an early lead in the opening frame thanks to an RBI-triple that rolled to the right field corner off the bat of Emily Allard (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, 3B, SB). She came across to score two batters later on Megan Blank's RBI-double.

Allard drove in another run in the second and designated player Tatum Edwards (2-for-3, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 1 BB) followed up with a two-RBI double to the left-center field fence.

Bandits starting pitcher Sara Moulton carried a no-hitter through 3.1 innings before Dawgs' left fielder Renee Erwin doubled, moving right fielder Christian Stokes to third. The bases became loaded on a walk by Brigette del Ponte and another walk to Nerissa Myers brought home the first run of the game for the Dawgs. Emilee Koerner later took a 3-2 pitch to straightaway center field for a game-tying grand slam, knocking Moulton out of the game.

The Bandits answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth on another two-RBI double from Edwards.

The Dawgs threatened again in the fifth, getting their first two runners on by single and walk but Bandits' relief pitcher Morgan Foley worked her way out of the jam with three straight outs.

"I was definitely thankful that I could come in and help my team get the sweep," Foley said. "I had the defense to back me up, so I had the confidence to throw."

The Bandits tacked on another two runs in their half of the fifth with a leadoff homerun by third baseman Andrea Filler, the first of her professional career, and an RBI-double from Barrett.

"To know [the hitters] . have your back, that is an amazing feeling," Foley said. "Knowing how well our hitters have done and knowing that we still have room to improve is just incredible."

The Bandits are back in Rosemont for another three-game homestead against the Dallas Charge beginning Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
