Balbino Takes Center Stage Sunday

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - After seeing four straight sliders, Canadians 1B Balbino Fuenmayor finally got the pitch he wanted (fastball) and hit his 6th home run of the summer off of Yakima RHP Derrick Stultz as part of a 2-for-3 afternoon that helped Vancouver to a 6-3 victory over the Yakima Bears on Sunday afternoon in front of a sold out Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Yakima's offense flexed their muscle in the top of the 3rd inning when DH Shawn Cooper hit his 6th home run of the summer with RF Michael Lang on base (walk) to break a 1-1 tie. The two-run home run came off of Canadians starter RHP Roberto Osuna who would go five innings, striking out five.

Vancouver grabbed their first lead of the day in the bottom of the 5th inning when 3B Kellen Sweeney hit his 12th double of the summer scoring RF Matt Newman (single) to give the Canadians a 5-3 lead.

SS Jorge Flores' 3rd home run of the summer put the game out of reach as Vancouver won going away with a 6-3 final.

Notes: The Canadians even the season series at 1-1 (.500) vs. Yakima with eight head-to-head match-ups remaining in the 2012 regular season... RHP Roberto Osuna pitched five innings to qualify for his first win of the season in his 4th NWL start... Vancouver's pitching was effective as Yakima was 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position (RISP).
