Omaha Lancers News Release

Five separate Lancers scored goals and four players earned two points each in a 5-2 victory over the Chicago Steel on Friday, February 8th, at the Mid-America Center.

Lancer goals were scored by Matt Thurber, Travis Novak, Barry Almeida, Seth Soley, and Chris Connolly. The goals from Connolly and Almeida both came on the power play, putting them atop the team scoring race for power play goals with six each.

Thurber, Almeida, and Connolly each added an assist for a two-point night, joining Patrick Wiercioch, who chipped in a pair of helpers in his first game back in the lineup after his recovery from a broken thumb.

Between the posts, Drew Palmisano stopped 12 shots and allowed two goals for his 19th victory of the season (19-6-2).

Chicago goals came from Eric Alexander and Drew LeBlanc. Omaha held a 3-1 lead after one period and still led 3-2 after two periods of play. The Lancers outshot the Steel by a 31-14 margin, holding Chicago to just two shots on goal in the final period of play.

The Lancers claimed the season series with a perfect 4-0-0 record against Chicago, despite two of the victories coming in shootouts in Chicago.

With the victory, the Lancers took a ten-point lead in the USHL West Division race, and remained one point behind Indiana in the race for the overall league championship.

The Lancers will be on the road Saturday night, facing the Black Hawks in Waterloo. Game time is 7:05 PM, with broadcast coverage on 1420-KOTK Radio starting at 6:45.
