Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks held a 4-0 lead at one point Friday, eventually matching the largest scoring output of the season with a 5-2 win against the Sioux Falls Stampede.
Following two unproductive power plays, Scott Pavelski opened the scoring at 12:35 of the first period with a shot that bounced off goalie Eric Hartzell and into the net.
Late in the first, Paul Weisgarber made it 2-0 with a wrist shot that fluttered over Hartzell's glove. With under a minute remaining in the period, Eddie Olczyk added one more, shoveling in a rebound.
At 2:10 of the middle period, Nick Larson flipped in the fourth Hawks goal of the night. During a two minute span just past the midway mark of the second, Jake Hansen and Nick Dineen cut the Black Hawk lead in half.
Blake Kessel wristed in a powerplay goal at 1:53 of the third to push the Black Hawks ahead by three. The goal along with seven consecutive minutes of successful penalty killing late in the game secured the win.
The Black Hawks return to home ice Saturday to meet the Western Division-leading Omaha Lancers at 7:05.
