Utah Flash News Release
OREM, Utah, Feb. 6, 2009-Dontell Jefferson scored a team-high 25 points, and six Utah Flash players recorded double-digits in scoring as the Flash captured a 113-105 NBA Development League victory over the Los Angeles D-Fenders Friday at the McKay Events Center.
"One of our keys to the game tonight was to play from the inside out, and I felt like we accomplished that." Flash head coach Brad Jones said. "When we executed our offense, things opened up for us down low."
The Flash outscored Los Angeles 54-30 in the paint en route to a 53-percent (40-of-76) shooting night from the field.
The Flash (16-10) has won 10 of its last 14 games, and will take on the Erie BayHawks on Monday in the first of a three-game road swing. Los Angeles (7-20) plays at Albuquerque on Saturday.
Los Angeles held a 27-22 lead after the first quarter and took a modest 52-48 lead into the half. Dontell Jefferson capped a Flash 15-3 run with a layup with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter to give Utah a 65-61 lead.
"This is nothing new from Dontell, we've been seeing this all year from him." Jones added. "Regardless of how many points he scores, he is a leader for our offense."
The D-Fenders rallied back from an 11-point deficit after a Ryan Forehan-Kelly three-point bucket with just under two minutes remaining brought the D-Fenders within three at 100-97. But Los Angeles was unable to draw closer in the final minutes.
Joe Crawford and Dwayne Mitchell finished with 28 points for the D-Fenders. Brandon Heath added 15, while Forhan-Kelly and Duane Erwin chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively, off the D-Fenders bench.
Andre Ingram added 19 points for the Flash, while James Lang chipped in 17. Ronald Dupree added 14 and Carlos Wheeler 13 points off the Flash bench. Boston Celtics assignee J.R. Giddens also scored 13 points off the Flash bench in his first game back with the Flash after being reassigned on Thursday.
