Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Eleven different Fighting Saints tallied at least one point as the team scored a season-high six goals to defeat the Indiana Ice 6-1 at the Mystique Community Ice Center on Saturday night.

The Fighting Saints grabbed a lead fifteen minutes into the first period. Shane Sooth skated the puck into the zone and set up at the left wing half-wall. Sooth centered the puck, and Zemgus Girgensons redirected it from close range to give Dubuque the 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Robert Polesello was waiting in front of the net and one-timed a Jacob Fallon cross-ice feed to tie the game. Christian Hilbrich picked up the secondary assist on the goal.

Jono Davis got the scoring started in what would be a big second period for the Fighting Saints, knocking the puck across the goal line with a couple of back door hacks to give Dubuque the 2-1 lead. Milos Bubela and Tyler Amburgey assisted on the tally. Ryan Siiro threw a puck in from the far side and earned a big rebound a minute later. The rebound bounced to Eric Freschi, who hammered it home to give the Saints a 3-1 edge. Kevin Morris was credited with the secondary assist on the goal.

Midway through the frame, TJ Moor made a nifty move, cutting in front of the cage to stuff the puck in after receiving the feed from Tyler Lundey. Lundey would get a goal of his own on the powerplay minutes later, knocking home a rebound to make it 5-1. Moor and Max Gardiner assisted on the tally, with Moor putting the initial shot on net. Gardiner got a goal of his own a couple of minutes later. He took a pass up the left wing from TJ Moor, and snapped it into the top shelf from a wide angle, giving Dubuque a 6-1 lead that they would protect until the final horn.

Neither team scored in the third period, preserving the 6-1 win for Dubuque. Matt Morris played the majority of the game for the Fighting Saints, making 17 saves on 18 shots. Connor Girard played the final ten minutes of the game, stopping all four shots he faced. Jon Gillies made 29 saves on 32 shots in two separate stints in net for Indiana, and Dalton Izyk stopped eight of the eleven shots he faced for the Ice.

The Fighting Saints will host the Des Moines Buccaneers for the only time this regular season on Wednesday. The team will play a home-and-home series with Cedar Rapids next weekend: on the road Friday, and at home the following night.
