Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Due to a heavy winter storm in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa and resulting hazardous travel conditions, the Waterloo Black Hawks home game scheduled for this evening against the Lincoln Stars has been postponed.
A rescheduled date for the game will be selected early next week. All tickets sold for Saturday's game will be honored when the game is played. The Black Hawks are also making arrangements for other ticket redemption options which will be released in conjunction with the rescheduling announcement.
Additionally, as a consequence of Saturday's postponement, the postgame party and meet-the-team event scheduled for tonight at The Other Place on University Avenue in Cedar Falls has also been postponed, with a makeup date pending.
"Just as we would not want to unnecessarily put our players and staff in harms' way during a winter storm, we cannot ask the Stars to make this trip with the road conditions as they are currently between here and Lincoln," said Black Hawks president Doug Miller. "When the game is made-up later this season, it's going to be a great matchup with playoff implications. I think it will be one worth waiting for."
Winds above 30 miles per hour blowing more than eight inches of snow in some places has led to several travel warnings from Nebraska and Iowa road officials. A Hawks-versus-Stars game was postponed almost exactly five years ago on February 24, 2007 due to in ice storm which closed most major highways in Iowa.
The Black Hawks' next home games are now slated for Friday, February 17th against the Fargo Force and Saturday, February 18th versus the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Waterloo will be on the road next week visiting the Green Bay Gamblers Tuesday, before traveling to Sioux City Friday and Omaha Saturday. All fans are invited to attend a watch party for Tuesday's game at Pepper's Grill and Sports Pub on 18th Street in Cedar Falls.
