Bakersfield's Trey Johnson called up to the Cleveland Cavaliers

NEW YORK, Feb. 20, 2009 - The Cleveland Cavaliers today signed Trey Johnson of the Bakersfield Jam making him the 10th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2008-09 NBA Development League season and the 128th overall since the league began play in 2001. The call-up marks the second time that Johnson has signed a 10-day contract with the Cavaliers this season.
Johnson, a 6-6 guard who earned his first call-up of the season to Cleveland on Feb. 3, averaged 2.2 points and 5.5 minutes in four games for the Cavaliers earlier this month.
Following his first 10-day contract with Cleveland, Johnson participated in the 2009 NBA D-League All-Star Game as part of NBA All-Star festivities in Phoenix last week. In the game, Johnson scored 15 points in 20 minutes for the winning Red Team. Rounding out his All-Star performance, Johnson also competed in the NBA D-League's Three-Point Shoot-Out at the second annual skills competition, Dream Factory Friday Night.
In 25 games (all starts) for the Jam this season, Johnson averaged 20.1 points, 4.8 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 39.2 minutes and scored in double-digits 23 times, including three games where he scored 30 or more points.
A two-year contributor at Jackson State, Johnson averaged 27.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 35 games during his senior season (2006-07) when he was named All-SWAC Player of the Year, also earning a spot on the NABC All-NCAA District 8 1st team, and SWAC Tournament MVP honors.
Johnson is expected to join the Cavaliers tonight when the team visits the Milwaukee Bucks.
