BAKERSFIELD - The Jam suffered a heartbreaking loss Saturday night, as Idaho's Paul Carter hit a 17-foot jump shot from the baseline at the final buzzer to defeat Bakersfield by a final score of 97-96. The Bakersfield Jam end the 2011-2012 regular season with a 28-22 record, while the Idaho Stampede finish with a 21-29 record.
After trailing by 10 (87-77) with 4:54 left in the game, Bakersfield fought their way back into the game quickly and went on a 19-4 run. The Jam took a 96-91 lead after that run and only 1:05 remained in the game. Idaho converted quick buckets and were only down a point with 0.07 seconds left (96-95). After an Idaho timeout, Carter hit the game winning shot to give the Stampede the victory.
Brian Butch led the Jam with 15 points and seven rebounds. Renaldo Major finished with 12 points while Trey Johnson added 11 points and dished out a game-high 9 assists. Los Angeles Clippers Assignee Travis Leslie ended the night with 10 points.
Both Paul Carter and David Bailey contributed 18 points each for Idaho. Chris Davis had 17 points, and Derrick Caracter scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Bakersfield enters the playoffs as the sixth seed and will host game one of their first round series against their to-be-determined opponent. The full schedule of matchups and dates for the 2012 NBA Development League Playoffs will be announced by the league office tomorrow, April 8th. For the fourth consecutive year, the top three seeded teams, the two conference winners and the wild card entrant with the best regular-season record, will select their first round playoff opponent among the teams seeded five-eight. The fourth seeded team will play the remaining unselected team. The opening round games will begin as early as April 10th, with all three rounds featuring a best-of-three format.
