Springfield Armor News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Eastern Conference Champion Springfield Armor will play the Canton Charge in the first round of the 2012 NBA Development League Playoffs presented by BBVA, it was announced today. The Armor will host the first playoff game in franchise history on Sunday, April 15 at 7:00 p.m.

The Armor, the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, completed the greatest single season turnaround in NBA Development League history on Saturday night, finishing the regular season with a 29-21 record, a 16-win improvement over the Armor's 13-37 record in the 2010-11 season. The Armor also secured their first-ever Eastern Conference title on the final day of the regular season yesterday and are headed to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

The Charge, the No. 7 seed in the NBA D-League Playoffs, will host game one of the best-of-three first round series on Friday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. Game two will be in Springfield on Sunday, April 15, while game three (if necessary) will take place on Monday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. The Armor held a 2-1 advantage over the Charge in the regular season series, with the teams splitting a pair of games in Springfield and the Armor winning the lone matchup in Canton.

The winner of the first round series between the Armor and Charge will take on the winner of the Austin Toros and Erie BayHawks matchup.

The NBA D-League's playoff format allows the top three seeds to select the teams they will play in the first round of the playoffs from among the No. 5-8 seeds. The top seed and Western Conference Champion Los Angeles D-Fenders elected to play the No. 8 seed Iowa Energy directly before the No. 2 seed Armor elected to face the No. 7 seed Charge. The No. 3 seed Austin Toros will take on the No. 5 seed Erie BayHawks and the No. 4 seed Dakota Wizards will face the No. 6 seed Bakersfield Jam. The lower seed (5-8) in each matchup hosts game one of the best-of-three playoff series, while the higher seed (1-4) in each matchup hosts game two and game three (if necessary).
