Bakersfield Cruises to 117-104 Victory

BAKERSFIELD - Six players scored in double figures as Bakersfield Jam (12-7) routed the Los Angeles D-Fenders (6-9) 117-104 at the Dignity Health Event Center Friday night. Damion James guided the Jam with team-high 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Jam got off to a great start against its southbound rivals, jumping to an early double digit lead and displaying great basketball at both ends of the floor. With a 32-22 lead entering the second quarter, Bakersfield continued to move the ball well and extended their lead to 62-46 at halftime. Energy, drive and momentum remained on Bakersfield's side in the second half as they stretched their lead to as many as 28 points and ultimately sealed the victory against the D-Fenders. The Jam led from start to finish, posting 31 assists as a team and had all five starters score in double figures.

Jerel McNeal scored 17 points and dished out six assists while Diante Garrett, who was assigned to the Jam yesterday from the Phoenix Suns, tallied 17 points and had a team-high seven assists off the bench. Stephen Dennis, who started in place of injured Renaldo Major, had 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Adam Koch and Brian Butch both finished with 11 points.

The D-Fenders were led by Elijah Millsap who had a double-double of 28 points and 10 points while also dishing out six assists. Courtney Fortson had 23 points, Gary Flowers had 18 points and Ronal Dupree off the bench contributed 17 points.

Both teams face each other again tomorrow, January 12 in Los Angeles at 6:30 p.m. PT.
