Bakersfield Cruises Past Dakota

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam easily defeated the Dakota Wizards tonight by a score of 124-95 to earn their 4th straight victory. The Jam never trailed in the game and led by as many as 41 points at one time.

The Jam's starters set the tone early in the game with Trey Johnson scoring the first 9 points of the contest. They went on to score 69 points in the first half, shooting 54.2% including hitting 5 three's and outscoring the Wizards by 20 points in the paint. Bakersfield was equally dominant on defense holding Dakota to 41 points on 35% shooting. The Wizards did manage to get to the line but could not connect from there either, shooting only 56.5% on the half.

Johnson finished with game-high 27 points and 5 assists. Forward Brandon Wallace had 20 points on the night and blocked 3 shots. Guard Jeremy Wise contributed 7 points and team-high 8 assists. Off the bench, Marqus Blakely had 15 points in the first half and finished the game with 20, while pulling down 8 boards, including 5 on the offensive end. Stephen Dennis added 12 points and dished out 6 assists tonight.

For the Wizards, forward Walter Sharpe had a team-high 24 points on 10-14 shooting. Center Chris Johnson finished just short of a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds and also had 5 blocked shot attempts. Guard Darren Cooper added 13 points and hit 2 of Dakota's only 3 three-pointers on the night.

With this victory, Bakersfield improves to 5-4 on the season, while Dakota drops to 1-8. The Wizards will look to redeem themselves tomorrow evening as the teams face-off in the second game of the back-to-back series at the Jam Events Center, tip-off 7 p.m.
