
Ewing, Jr. notches triple-double in win

RENO, Nev.- Patrick Ewing, Jr.'s first-career professional triple-double lifted the Reno Bighorns to a 119-111 victory over the defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers Friday night in the Reno Events Center.
Ewing, Jr. recorded 26 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists on the night to lead the 'Horns (7-1). The Georgetown product connected on 11-of-12 tries from the stripe for a Bighorns squad that shot 85.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Rio Grande Valley (4-4) led by two at the break and held a three-point advantage early in the second half, but the Bighorns took over from there. Reno outscored the Vipers 59-49 in the second half to pull away for their seventh win of the season.
Marcus Landry led all scorers with 30 points, and Aaron Miles just missed out on a triple-double of his own with 24 points, eight boards and nine assists. Nick Fazekas chipped-in 16 points for Reno.
Richard Roby came off the bench to lead five Vipers in double figures with 24 points. Patrick Patterson, on NBA assignment from the Houston Rockets, notched a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Ewing, Jr.'s triple-double was the fourth in Bighorns franchise history. Dave Noel recorded two triple-doubles in the 2008-09 season, and Desmon Farmer scored 20 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists for a triple-double on Dec. 13 last season vs. Bakersfield.
The Bighorns and Vipers will lock horns again on Saturday night in the Reno Events Center. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m. Saturday's game will feature a Toys for Tots Drive. Any fan donating a toy at the game will receive a free ticket to a future Bighorns game this season.
