
Bacon Provides Three Strong Innings of Relief, M-Braves Drop Series Opener to Barons 9-4

Bacon tosses three scoreless innings, Alexander adds two RBI BOX SCORE PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (26-32) dropped the series opener 9-4 to the Birmingham Barons (23-35) in their first 2022 meeting on Tuesday night at Trustmark Park.
RHP Troy Bacon contributed three scoreless innings of relief. He has given up just one run in his last 11 innings. The right-hander holds a 3.00 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 30 innings over 15 appearances this season.
Down 1-0 in the first, Justin Dean tripled to right center and then scored on a groundball by CJ Alexander to tie the game at 1-1.
Dean went 2-for-5 with a triple, a single and two runs. In 16 games for the M-Braves, Dean is hitting .228 with two triples, two doubles, four RBI and five stolen bases.
Birmingham scored six runs over the next three innings and led 7-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth.
After a leadoff walk by Jalen Miller, infielder Yariel Gonzalez knocked him in with a flare to right field to make it 7-2. Gonzalez finished 1-for-3 with a walk and picked up his 15th RBI.
The M-Braves scored two runs in the ninth in the 9-4 loss.
Despite going 0-for-5, Alexander scored two runs to up his RBI total to 29 this season.
The second game of the series is on Wednesday at Trustmark Park. RHP Tanner Gordon (3-2, 5.13) makes the start for Mississippi against an opener for Birmingham. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting at 6:20 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
