Backman and Flinn Power Ontario Reign Past Rampage

San Antonio, TX - Forward Sean Backman scored two goals in the third period and goaltender Jack Flinn made 19 saves for his first professional win as the Ontario Reign (3-1-2-0) toppled the San Antonio Rampage (3-5-0-0) 4-2 at AT&T Center Sunday afternoon.

Game Summary

The Reign rang the post twice in the opening period, but the Rampage cashed in for a 1-0 lead at 12:58 as forward Mike Sislo buried a wrist shot under the glove of Flinn.

Defenseman Kurtis MacDermid put the Reign on the scoreboard early in the second period blast a shot past the pads of Rampage netminder Spencer Martin (L, 27 saves on 30 shots) at 5:26. Forward Michael Latta picked up his first point with the Reign and defenseman Paul LaDue added the second assist. Later in the period, forward T.J. Hensick setup Sam Herr for his first goal of the season to give the Reign a 2-1 lead. Defenseman Zac Leslie picked up the second assist.

Early in the final stanza, the Rampage pulled even off a power-play marker from Sam Jardine, but Backman reclaimed the lead for the Reign for good, also on the man advantage, at 12:45. Forwards Jonny Brodzinski and Michael Mersch added assists. With the clock winding down, Backman sealed the victory with an empty-net tally at 19:03 with help from Hensick and Mersch. The Reign finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play while the Rampage went 1-for-7.

The Ontario Reign wrap up a season-high five-game road trip on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 against the Tucson Roadrunners in Tucson, Arizona. The Reign return home to Citizens Business Bank Arena on Wednesday, November 9 to host the San Antonio Rampage at 7:00 p.m. PT.
