
B-Sens Survive for OT Victory over Amerks

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators defeated Rochester on the road tonight 3-2 in the first of eight meetings between the teams this season. The B-Sens were able to overcome an early deficit and hold on in overtime as Cody Ceci netted his second game winning goal of the season 1:36 in. Andrew Hammond earned his second victory of the year with a strong performance between the pipes stopping 30 of 32 Amerks shots.
Rochester started the contest off 4:00 minutes into the opening period as Phil Varone took a rebound from Mike Zigomanis and hit it past an outstretched Hammond putting the hosts up 1-0. The first period ended with few chances for either team sending the hosts to the locker room ahead. Hammond turned aside 16 of 17 first period shots by the Amerks while Rochester's Matt Hackett stifled all 11 B-Sens shots faced.
Binghamton picked up its intensity after the first period outshooting the Americans 13-5 in the middle frame. Mike Hoffman notched his sixth and seventh tallies of the season 79 seconds apart to push the B-Sens in front 2-1. However, Rochester was able to even the score two goals apiece at the 17:15 mark to carry the teams tied into the final period.
The third period was a goaltender highlight reel with both Hammond and Hackett turning aside 10 shots apiece to force an overtime contest.
Binghamton was able to remain perfect in games decided after three periods when Cody Ceci ripped home the game-winning goal 1:36 into the extra period sending the Senators home with two points and a big overtime victory.
Hammond played his best game in a Senators uniform to earn his second victory of the season. Hackett dropped to 3-3-1 for the season while turning aside 34 of 37 B-Sens shots.
The teams will faceoff again tomorrow in Binghamton for a 7:05 p.m. matchup at the Broome County Veterans Memorial.
