About Binghamton
The bullpen has allowed just one run over their last five games (0.48 ERA), yielding six hits and five walks while striking out 20 in 18 2/3 innings over that span. Over that same stretch, Binghamton's starters have allowed 15 runs in 26 innings of work (5.19 ERA)...B-Mets pitchers have allowed five homers this year, all of them given up by the starters and all of them multi-run shots - three three-run homers and two two-run dingers.
About New Hampshire
New Hampshire's coming off a doubleheader split vs. New Britain Saturday, losing the first game 14-5 before winning the second contest 1-0, earning a split of the four-game series...only two teams are hitting worse than the Fisher Cats' .208 and have scored fewer than their 30 runs...The Fisher Cats are managed by former B-Mets skipper Doug Davis. Doug managed Binghamton in 1999 and 2000, leading the B-Mets to their worst-ever finish in '99 (54-88) but he bounced back to lead Binghamton to a club-record-tying 82 wins and Binghamton's last Northern Division title in '00. Doug combined for a 136-146 record during his two seasons with Binghamton.
This âN That
Yesterday, reliever Henry Owens continued his dominance of the Eastern League, striking out two in an inning of work. Owens, who hasn't allowed a hit, has struck out 17 of the 25 to face him, allowing only four baserunners...after going 3 for 24 (.125) with runners in scoring position during their back-to-back losses Friday and Saturday, Binghamton rebounded to go 4 for 12 (.333) with runners on second and/or third in yesterday's contest...No EL team has walked (48) or struck out (104) more often than the B-Mets...Binghamton and New Hampshire met 23 times last season, making them the B-Mets' most frequent foe. This year, Binghamton will see Portland (19 times) and Trenton (17) more often than they will see the Fisher Cats.
