Aztex 2015 Regular Season Revealed

February 2, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas (Monday, February 2, 2015) - The Aztex will get a heavy dose of home cooking, hosting seven of their first ten games at House Park after USL PRO announced the full league schedule Monday afternoon.

Featuring a 28-game schedule, Austin will play a schedule entirely composed of opponents from USL PRO's new Western Conference and will consist of 14 home games and 14 away games. From the 11 teams that the Aztex will be facing, five of them are also expansion teams for the 2015 season.

The Aztex regular season will run from Saturday, March 28th through Sunday, September 20th.

Different from past years, the games at House Park will kick off at 8 p.m. In addition, all but three home games will be played on Saturdays, with the exception of contests against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Wednesday, April 1st, Oklahoma City on Friday, May 1 and Arizona United SC on Friday, July 17th.

The Aztex host the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on their season opener and regular season professional debut, a battle that could spark a tough rivalry since these two teams face each other four different times throughout the season.

The first quarter of the season sets the table for the squad led by Head Coach Paul Dalglish to take advantage and start strong, as seven of their first 10 matches will be played at House Park. The Aztex will like to continue the tradition of carrying a strong home field advantage at the stadium, where they went 20-3-3 after three years in USL PDL.

Moving into the second quarter, the Aztex will play two out of their first three games at home, before they hit the road for three straight weeks, including a key stop at Sacramento to challenge the reigning USL PRO National Champions, Sacramento Republic FC. Before coming back home, the Aztex also play for the first time against Portland Timbers 2.

The Aztex will host the Tulsa Roughnecks on their third clash on the year to reach the halfway point of the regular season.

The second half of the season, and third quarter overall, opens up with the second matchup in a month against the Sacrament Republic FC, this time on Aztex territory. During the month of July, the Aztex have back-to-back showdowns against Arizona United SC, a team they also play four times in the 2015 regular season. They'll reach the 21-game mark when they visit Irving, California for a matchup against Orange County Blues.

For the final seven games of the season, the Aztex play a slate of three home games that include clashes against LA Galaxy 2 and the first-ever meeting against the Seattle Sounders FC 2. These games become even more important given that the Aztex wrap up their season with a complicated road trip, traveling to Colorado Springs and Seattle, before reaching Vancouver to face the Whitecaps 2 in their regular season finale.
