Aztex Take on Sounders 2 in Thursday Night Matchup

September 16, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas (August 16, 2015)- All eyes will be on the Aztex as they travel to face the Seattle Sounders FC 2 Thursday evening at Starfire Sports Stadium in Seattle, where the sixth and final playoff spot in the USL's Western Conference will be decided.

S2 has been in a position to control its postseason fate, but a four-game losing streak has prevented the club from securing a playoff position. Seattle (12-12-3, 39 points) only needs a point to move ahead of Tulsa Roughnecks FC (11-11-6, 39 points), which wrapped up its season more than a week ago. Should the Aztex defeat S2 on Thursday, the final postseason position goes to the Tulsa Roughnecks.

In their last meeting, the Aztex closed out their 2015 inaugural home schedule with a 2-1 win over S2 behind goals from Andres Cuero and Romain Gall. Joining Gall and Cuero in the attack are the squads scoring leaders Kris Tyrpak and Trevin Caesar. The Aztex will also receive reinforcements as Tony Rocha returns after serving a one game suspension due to yellow card accumulation.

Defender Sergio Campbell has joined the team on loan from Columbus Crew SC and helps round out a defense which is ranked 10th in the league in goals allowed. Goalkeeper Cody Laurendi has filled in the absence of Devin Perales, who has been out due to injury. Laurendi and the Aztex defense will look to keep S2's attack at bay and deliver the series sweep between the two clubs.

S2 are led in attack by Pablo Rossi with eight goals scored on the season followed by Andy Craven and Darwin Jones, who scored five goals apiece.

Aztex fans can tune in to the game live on YouTube or at www.austinaztex.com.
