USL Discipline Report: Week 26
September 16, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - Following is the USL's discipline report for Week 26 of the 2015 season:
Twelve players are serving suspensions this upcoming week and have been fined an undisclosed amount for their actions. Additionally, OKC Energy FC head coach Jimmy Nielsen was fined an undisclosed amount for public criticism of match officials following OKC's match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday.
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds' Sterling Flunder, who was sent off during their 1-1 draw against Wilmington Hammerheads FC this past week, will serve his one-game suspension on Wednesday against the Rochester Rhinos.
The following players are suspended for their season finale for picking up either their fifth or eighth yellow card of the season: Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC's Shintaro Harada (fifth caution; out Saturday against the LA Galaxy II), FC Montreal's Louis Beland-Goyette (fifth caution; out Wednesday against the Harrisburg City Islanders), the LA Galaxy II's Bradley Diallo (fifth caution; out Wednesday against the Portland Timbers 2), OKC Energy FC's Gareth Evans (eighth caution; out Wednesday against Arizona United SC), the Portland Timbers 2's Fatawu Safiu and Andy Thoma (eighth cautions; both out Wednesday against the LA Galaxy II), the Rochester Rhinos' Patrick McMahon (fifth caution; out Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds), Seattle Sounders FC 2's Giuliano Frano (fifth caution; out Thursday against the Austin Aztex), Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2's Marco Bustos (fifth caution; out Sunday against the Austin Aztex) and Wilmington Hammerheads FC's Brian Ackley (eighth caution; out Saturday against Toronto FC II).
Arizona United SC's Jonathan Top is serving his second of a two-game suspension for yellow card accumulation and will miss Wednesday's season finale against OKC Energy FC.
With the final week of the regular season upcoming, those who pick up a caution resulting in a yellow card accumulation violation will be fined (and suspended if the violation occurs in the second-to-last game of the season). No suspension will be implemented into this year's postseason or next year's regular season if the violation occurs in the last game of the season. However, players who are issued a red card during this week will be both fined and suspended heading into the USL Playoffs and/or carrying over into the 2016 USL season.
