Aztex Fall 3-0 to Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Wednesday, September 9, 2015) - The Austin Aztex (9-14-3) had to settle for a 2-2 serires draw on their with their rival, dropping a 3-0 result to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks (14-9-3) Wednesday evening at Sand Creek Stadium in Colorado Springs.
With the result, the Aztex have been eliminated from postseason competition in their inaugural 2015 USL season.
The Switchbacks were able to storm out to a quick lead in the opening minute of the game when the referee awarded a penalty kick to the home team after Charles Eloundou went down in the penalty area. Switchbacks captain Luke Vercollone, the team leader in goals scores, stepped up and converted the penalty kick for the early lead.
The Aztex would look to answer back in the first half, but could not find the equalizer in the opening 45th minute, forcing six shots in the first half. Aztex forward Trevin Caesar led the team with two shots in the opening period, with one shot going just over the crossbar in the 31st minute.
The Switchbacks would add to the lead in the 54th minute when Gonzalez fed a through ball to Eloundou, who slid the ball to Aztex goalkeeper Cody Laurendi's right side for the goal. Aztex coach Paul Dalglish, knowing the Aztex needed the win, made an automatic substitution, sending in forward Drew Yates for midfielder Ryan Roushandel.
While the Aztex would look to pull themselves to the game, the Switchbacks were able to settle back and defend, knowing a win would help catapult their positioning to the top seed in the Western Conference.
The Switchbacks would put the game away with another Vercollone goal in the 85th minute to put the game away.
The Aztex will conclude their season with a two-game roadtrip next week versus the Seattle Sounders 2 on Thursday, Sept. 17 before their season finale versus the Vancouver Whitecaps 2 on Sunday, Sept. 20.
