Kickers Announce 2015 USL PRO Schedule
February 2, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - (Monday, February 2, 2015) - The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the 28-game regular season schedule, opening the 2015 campaign on the road against the Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday, March 28 before returning to City Stadium for the 21st consecutive season to host expansion franchise Louisville City FC on Saturday, April 4 at 5:00 p.m.
"Ultimately our goal is to make Kickers games the number one sports entertainment destination in Richmond," commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. "We have assembled a squad of players that will once again compete for a national championship. Combined with the rapid growth of our fan base and electric in-stadium fan experience City Stadium, it will be a great night out to support your hometown team."
With its unprecedented off-season growth, which included the establishment of professional soccer in several new markets and the addition of seven MLS owned and operated clubs, USL PRO has split into 12-team Eastern and Western Conferences in 2015. Teams face each of their conference opponents at least twice during the 28-game regular season schedule, and the additional six games are comprised of matchups against geographic rivals.
Joining the Kickers in the Eastern Conference are longtime rivals Charleston Battery, Harrisburg City Islanders, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Rochester Rhinos and Wilmington Hammerheads, alongside newcomers Charlotte Independence, Louisville City FC and Saint Louis FC as well as MLS-owned sides FC Montreal, New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC II.
Eleven of the Kickers 14 regular season home games will be played on Saturdays, with one match taking place under the lights on Friday, April 10 and one Sunday afternoon match-up rounding out the home schedule. With the exception of the April 4th home opener and June 7th game that kick off at 5:00 p.m., the majority of home games will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The regular season concludes the weekend of September 19-20 and the 2015 USL PRO postseason will see the top six finishers in each conference moving on to the four-week single-elimination playoffs.
