Charlotte Knights News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) - On a day devoted to man's best friend, Knights RHP Dylan Axelrod was top dog.

Axelrod (2-1, 1.08) tossed 7.2 shutout innings, Tyler Kuhn, Jim Gallagher, and Jordan Danks each had two hits, and the Knights beat the Gwinnett Braves 2-0 on Sunday in the finale of their three-game series from Knights Stadium. With the win, the Knights finished off the homestand with an impressive 6-1 mark.

After giving up a leadoff base hit to start the game, Axelrod retired the next 18 batters he faced. He went all the way to the seventh without allowing another base hit. In the seventh frame, Braves second baseman Drew Sutton led off with a single to left field.

In all, Axelrod allowed just four hits and struck-out six batters. With the win on Sunday, Axelrod is now 4-0 against the Braves in his career. He went 3-0 against Gwinnett last season.

Knights right fielder Greg Golson singled home Danks, who had doubled off the right field wall, to put the Knights on the board in the fourth inning. Kuhn got his second hit of the game to lead off the fifth and Gallagher followed with a stand-up triple just inside the right field line to make the score 2-0.

Danks was 2-for-3 for the Knights with a run scored, Kuhn snapped out of a recent slump by reaching base three times, and Gallagher was 2-for-4 with the big RBI triple.

After an off-day on Monday, the Knights (10-8) will start a 13-game, 14-day road trip on Tuesday in Gwinnett. Charlotte trails the Braves by just two games for first place in the South Division.

LHP Charlie Leesman (1-1, 5.02) will take the mound for the Knights in Tuesday's opener from Coolray Field. The Knights will face the Atlanta Braves' Tim Hudson, who is set to make a rehab start for Gwinnet. Hudson has been out since the spring with a back injury.

Baseball returns to Knights Stadium on Monday, May 7 as the Knights open an eight-game homestand. Tickets for all games on the upcoming homestand can be purchased online at www.charlotteknights.com, in-person at the Knights Stadium Ticket Office, or by phone at 704-357-8071 (North Carolina), or 803-548-8050 (South Carolina).
