Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA-The Northwest League announced today that Avista Stadium has been named the NWL Field of the Year for 2011. Spokane has won the award seven years in a row and thirteen of the last fifteen seasons.
"It's a tremendous honor for Avista Stadium to receive this award, " said Head Groundskeeper Tony Lee. "Our grounds crew has worked hard all year to keep our field the best in the Northwest."
The award is given every year to the team that has the best playing surface and maintains the high- est quality field throughout the 76 game season as voted on by NWL managers and coaches.
"I've played on a lot of baseball fields in my career and this is far and away the best," said first-round pick Zach Cone. "It says a lot of how much time and effort Tony Lee and the grounds crew put into Avista Stadium. We definitely have a home field advantage here."
Along with the NWL Field of the Year Award, Lee was also named the Sports Turf Manager (STMA) of the Year for the NWL. Lee will now have the opportunity to be selected as the Short Season 'A' Sports Turf Manger of the Year. This award will be announced at the 2011 Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas, TX, December 5th-8th.
