Coastal Bend Aviators News Release
Robstown, Texas â The Aviators couldn't hang on to take the final game of the four game series from the Amarillo Dillas, but were able to remain is first place of the Western Division after Central League play concluded Wednesday night. Rob Elias (3-1) suffered his first loss since joining the Aviators despite striking out four and only walking one in his two innings of work. Cameron Flading took the win for the Dillas raising his record to 5-3.
Amarillo was the first to score in the top of the third inning. Dillas second baseman Eric Kofler stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and knocked in two runs on a single to right centerfield. Coastal Bend nearly tied it up in the bottom of the third when Eric Battersby hit a shot over the left field wall that would have resulted in a 2-run homerun had it been ruled fair, but in the eyes of home plate umpire Warren Waley it was foul. Battersby was ejected from the game moments later after arguing the call. The Aviators would have to settle for only one run in the inning when right fielder Marcus Knight scored on a single by third baseman Cris Colon.
The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Coastal Bend's Scott Merkich singled to score Cris Colon to give each team two runs a piece. Amarillo slipped away with the win scoring two in the top of the 8th when designated hitter Benjamin Craig hit a two run double to give the Dillas the 4-2 victory and end the Aviators winnings streak at seven games.
The Aviators hit the road for a four game series in San Angelo against the Colts July 24th â July 27th. Aaron Dobbins (3-3) is scheduled to start for the Aviators Thursday night while Jason Sena (2-1) will get the nod for San Angelo.
