Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Quarterback Sonny Cumbie, who threw 59 touchdown passes for the Los Angeles Avengers during the 2006 season, was selected to the Arena Football League's All-Rookie Team today.

Cumbie started the last 12 games of the season, completing 268 of his 450 pass attempts (59.6 percent) for 3,241 yards (with only 10 interceptions). His 59 touchdown passes represent the seventh highest single-season total by a rookie in AFL history. Cumbie also rushed for three scores and set an Avenger team record with a string of 212 pass attempts without an interception.

"This is a great honor and I want to thank all the coaches and the guys on the team for being patient with me, which allowed me to achieve this award," Cumbie said. "I'm really looking forward to next season. With the way we finished this season with two wins, it gave us a taste of how well we can play as a team and gives us the momentum we need to work toward having a strong 2007."

Cumbie is the sixth player in Avenger history to be selected to the AFL All-Rookie Team.

As a senior at Texas Tech University in 2004, Cumbie led the NCAA in passing with 4,742 yards (No. 6 all-time in NCAA Division I-A history). He also threw 32 touchdown passes and topped the 400-yard mark six times.
