AUSTIN, Texas, December 6, 2005 - The Austin Toros will host a holiday toy drive benefiting Project Brown Santa on Saturday, Dec. 11 as they host the Florida Flame at the Austin Convention Center. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
"This is really what building community is all about, working together for the good of families who are in need of assistance during the holiday season," said team president Mike Berry.
In support of the toy drive, Toros fans can bring a new toy to the game and receive one free ticket with the purchase of a regular priced ticket for the Dec. 11th game. All children in attendance (age 14 and under) will receive an Austin Toros holiday ornament while supplies last.
Project Brown Santa is the holiday community service of the Travis County Sheriff's Office. The 25th year of the community service, this year's volunteers hope to help 1500 families in Travis County with a Christmas dinner and toys for area kids.
"We are pleased to have the Austin Toros join our efforts to bring some holiday cheer to deserving families in Travis County. It's continuing evidence that the public and private sectors can work together for the good of the community as a whole," said Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton.
Doors open to the general public at 2 p.m. and parking garages are conveniently located o the corners of 5th & Red River and 2nd & Trinity Street. Tickets start as low as $9 per seat and can be purchased at austintoros.com or at the nine local Pinky's Wireless locations in the Austin and Round Rock areas, as well as Waterloo Records. The Toros are affiliated with the NBA's Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and the 2005 World Champion San Antonio Spurs.
