Austin Spurs News Release
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Toros set a season high Friday night at the sold out Austin Convention Center in their final home game of 2009, 115-99.
The two teams came out on fire, both shooting 50 percent beyond the arch in the first quarter. The Jam's Reece Gaines was perfect in the quarter and led his team with 11 points. Toros' Lewis Clinch also had 11 points in the first quarter, with the first six points of the game coming off his two three-point shots.
The Toros took the lead at half time 67-51, after outscoring the Jam 37-21 in the second quarter. Both teams shot over 60 percent from the field in the half, but the difference came in turnovers, with the Toros scoring 28 points off of 16 Jam turnovers.
Jam's Jeremy Wise had 10 points off the bench in the third quarter, but it was not enough to keep up with the Toros, as they extended their lead 93-73.
The Jam outscored the Toros 18-15 in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late. Bakersfield had six players in double figures: Wise 19 points, Justin Hawkins 16 points, Rodney Webb 14 points, Gaines 13, Amara Sy and John Williams with 10 points.
Adidas Player of the Game, Clinch, led all scoring with 23 points and had five assists on the night.
Coming off the bench, Toros' Russell Carter had 17 points. The Toros had three other players in double figures including Gee 21 points and seven boards, Curtis Jerrells 17 points, and Dwayne Jones gaining his seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Toros will begin their nine-game road trip on Tuesday against the Albuquerque Thunderbirds at 8:00 p.m.
