Austin Spurs News Release
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Spurs today announced that they have selected forward Jonathan Kasibabu with the 14th pick in the first round and guards Anthony Mathis and Kaleb Johnson with the 31st and 34th overall selections in the second round of the 2021 NBA G League Draft.
Kasibabu, 6-8/240, played for the G League's Long Island Nets last season, averaging 7.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 20.2 minutes per game. In four seasons at Fairfield University from 2015-19, he posted 7.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks in 21.3 minutes per game for the Stags. As a senior, he earned the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year award, when he ranked second in the conference in rebounds per game (7.4) and tied for fifth in blocks per game (0.8). Kasibabu is a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In 2014, he was selected to the Euroleague Nike International Junior Tournament All-Tournament Team and was one of 12 players who were named a top prospect.
Mathis, 6-4/185, is coming off his lone season at the University of Oregon where he ranked second in the Pac-12 in three-point field goal percentage (45.4 percent, 69-152) and eighth on the Ducks single-season list. On Nov. 10, 2019, he became the first Oregon player since Tajuan Porter in 2006 to make nine three-pointers in a game en route to a career-high 30 points. Before transferring to Oregon, Mathis played four seasons at the University of New Mexico. As a junior (2018-19) he recorded a team-high 14.4 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from three-point range. He broke the Lobos' single-season three-point record (106 made) and was named to the All-Mountain West Third Team. During the 2016-17 season, Mathis suffered a season-ending injury and received a medical redshirt season.
Johnson, 6-7/220, averaged 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game in four seasons with Georgetown University from 2015-19. He earned the 2019 PNC Student-Athlete Achiever award, which recognizes well-rounded student-athletes who demonstrate leadership in the classroom and in competition. He received Big East All-Academic Team honors each year of his college career.
