Austin FC News Release

Austin, TEXAS - Austin FC fell in a 2-1 defeat to Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium.

The visitors took an early lead in the 15th minute, when Rubio Rubín headed in a cross from Jasper Löffelsend. Austin had multiple shots denied by RSL goalkeeper Gavin Beavers as they pushed for an equalizer, including a free kick from Diego Fagundez.

A weather delay then paused the match in the 40th minute, until play resumed two (2) hours later.

Sebastián Driussi came on as a halftime substitute for Austin FC and nearly made an immediate impact. Fagundez found the Argentine with a clever pass, but his shot was blocked. Beavers then stopped Driussi on the doorstep after a scramble in the box.

Rubín eventually tallied his and RSL's second goal of the night in the 81st minute. Julio Cascante pulled a goal back for Austin in stoppage time with a well-placed header from Emiliano Rigoni's assist, but it wasn't enough to earn Austin a result on the night.
