Austin FC Defender Kolmanic Receives Slovenia U-21 National Team Call up for 2021 U-21 Euro Finals Group Stage

Austin, Texas - Austin FC announced today that the Football Association of Slovenia has called up defender Zan Kolmanič for the UEFA U-21 EURO Finals group stage in Slovenia and Hungary scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 24.

"Participating in an elite tournament such as the UEFA U-21 is a meaningful accomplishment for Zan, who has shown consistency throughout his youth national team tenure," commented Josh Wolff, Austin FC Head Coach.

Slovenia, one (1) of two (2) hosting countries of the 2021 edition of the tournament along with Hungary, will participate in Group B, alongside the Czech Republic, Italy, and reigning champions Spain. Slovenia's 23-player squad will play three (3) group stage matches between March 24-31, with the group winner and runner-up advancing to the eight-team knockout phase scheduled to be played May 31- June 6, 2021.

Kolmanič and Slovenia will open the tournament against Spain on Wednesday, March 24, at Stadion Ljudski vtr in Maribor before playing against the Czech Republic on Saturday, March 27, in Stadion Celje in Celje. Slovenia will close group stage participation against Italy on Tuesday, March 30 in Maribor. Quarterfinals will be played on May 31, followed by Semifinals on June 3 and the tournament Final, set to be played on Sunday, June 6.

Kolmanič, a native of Murska Sobota, Slovenia, has made 39 combined appearances with the Slovenian youth national teams, including one (1) with the U-21 National Team. ‚ Austin FC acquired the 21-year-old on loan from NK Maribor on March 3, 2021.
