Austin Falls to Birmingham

AUSTIN - The Austin Spurs (6-12) fell to the Birmingham Squadron (7-10), 113-120, at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Saturday night.

Brandon Randolph led in points for the Spurs, scoring 22. Jordan Hall claimed a double-double tonight with 16 points and 10 assists. Jordan Murphy added 18 points and 9 rebounds. Marcus Zegarowski chipped in 17 points.

The Squadron took control of the first frame, outscoring the Spurs 33-24. In the second frame, Austin shot 60.6% (20-33) from the field and Birmingham shot 65.8% (25-38) from the field. Though the Spurs won the quarter 32-27, the Squadron took the lead to end the first half, 60-56. In the third, Squadron forward, Zylan Cheatham, scored 14 of his 20 points that gave Birmingham the advantage, 94-80. Baskets were traded in the fourth quarter with Austin being able to cut the deficit down to six with 1:34 remaining in the game, but it wasn't enough to best Birmingham.

Kelan Martin led the Squadron with 32 points. Feron Hunt scored 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists. Javonte Smart added 17 points and 5 rebounds in Birmingham's win over Austin.

NEXT UP

Austin will hit the court again on Feb. 22 after the NBA All-Star break. The Spurs are set to face the Santa Cruz Warriors at the Kaiser Permanente Arena with a 9 p.m. tipoff.
