Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA-The Augusta Lynx have released their 2008-09 schedule. The 2008-09 season marks the 11th season of hockey in Augusta for the Lynx. Augusta opens the season with a home-and-home series against the South Carolina Stingrays, the team that narrowly beat the Lynx in the South Division Quarterfinals in the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs, coming from two games down to win the series 3-2. The home and season opener will be on Friday, October 17th at 7:30pm in Augusta against the Stingrays.

Other highlights from this season's schedule include the longest road trip of the season after the home opener when the Lynx take to the road for eight straight games, including games against the Elmira Jackals and Reading Royals from the North Division. The Lynx will play seven home games in the month of October including two against the Dayton Bombers and two against the Charlotte Checkers. The longest homestand of the season begins in mid-December when the Lynx kick off a seven-game homestand that continues through Christmas and New Years. It includes the annual New Year's Eve bash, which is preceded by a home game against the Pensacola Ice Pilots. The Lynx begin 2009 with the majority of games in January on the road. However, the Lynx will host a season-high nine games in February at home, including two visits from the Mississippi Sea Wolves and Florida Everblades and one game against the Trenton Devils. The regular season ends with the Lynx home for the last three games of the year, including the season finale on Saturday, April 4th against Pensacola.

"The ECHL did a great job on the schedule this year," said Lynx general manager Dan Troutman. "We are playing every single weekend from the home opener in October, to the last game in April. February is traditionally a great month for hockey, and we are pleased to have nine home games during that time. We hope that the increased number of games against our South Division opponents further increases the already well- established rivalries." Augusta will face division rivals in 66 of 72 games this season, varying only for two each against Elmira and Dayton, plus singles versus the Reading Royals and Trenton Devils. The Lynx will play Charlotte 12 times (6 H, 6 A); Florida 10 times (5 H, 5 A); Gwinnett 12 times (6 H, 6 A); Mississippi 10 times (5 H, 5 A); Pensacola 10 times (5 H, 5 A); and South Carolina 12 times (6 H, 6 A).
