Johnstown Chiefs 2008-09 Season Schedule Released
May 1, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs announced, today, their 72-game regular season schedule for the 2008-09 ECHL season. The Chiefs' 21st season in the ECHL features a multitude of exciting match-ups, including six games against teams Johnstown has never played.
The Chiefs season will commence on Friday, October 17 on the road against the Trenton Devils. Sovereign Bank Arena was kind to the Chiefs last year, as evidenced by their 4-1-0 record in that building. The very next night, Saturday, October 18, Johnstown will open their home slate against the Wheeling Nailers. That game will be a rematch of the home, and season, opener exactly one year after the Chiefs began their 20th anniversary season against the Nailers.
The 2008 holiday season will get some added festivities with the Chiefs skating on home ice. On Wednesday, December 31 Johnstown will welcome the Trenton Devils to the War Memorial for the always popular New Year's Eve game. Chiefs fans will be thankful to note that Johnstown will have two home dates on Thanksgiving weekend, as well. Friday, November 28 features a contest against Trenton, while the Cincinnati Cyclones come to town on Saturday, November 29. Also, Johnstown will host the Elmira Jackals two days after Christmas on Saturday, December 27.
In total, the Chiefs will play 64 games against their North Division brethren, and eight against the South Division. Six of the eight against the South Division games will be played against two brand-new opponents.
On Sunday, November 30 the Florida Everblades will make their first appearance at the War Memorial, while the Chiefs will return the favor at Germain Arena with a three-game series from February 25-28. In their second year back in the ECHL after recovering from Hurricane Katrina, the Mississippi Sea Wolves will visit the Chiefs for the first time on Wednesday, January 28 and Friday, January 30. Rounding out the South Division slate is a home match against South Carolina on Friday, February 20, and a visit to Pensacola on February 24.
The South Carolina game is one of the six games that make up the Chiefs' longest home stand of the season from February 13 to February 22. The match-up with Pensacola begins the Chiefs' only road trip outside of the division, and is followed by the three-game set with Florida.
