Salmon Kings Get "Mac" Back

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that centerman and team captain Kiel McLeod has been returned to the team by the AHL's Albany River Rats.

McLeod was promoted by the River Rats on February 28th. In 20 regular season games in Albany he picked up 13 points (5g-8a) was a +7 and accumulated 20 minute in penalties.

During their seven games series versus the Philadelphia Phantoms in the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, the Kelowna, B.C. native collected 3 points (2g-1a). The River Rats lost the series 4-3.

This is the second season McLeod has served as the Kings' captain. This year with the Salmon Kings he has played in 48 games picking up 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points.

McLeod spent three seasons in the AHL at the beginning of his professional career. During that span the 6-6, 235lbs centerman played in 212 games collecting 48 points (22g-26a) while collecting 247 minutes in penalties.

The second round (#53 overall), 2001 draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets played his entire junior career with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League. In parts of six seasons he amassed 290 games played and collected 261 points (123g-138a).

The Salmon Kings roster now sits at 22 players (13 forwards, 7 defensemen and 2 goalies).

The Salmon Kings continue their 2008 Kelly Cup Playoff drive tonight when they face off for Game 3 of their National Conference Semi-Final Series against the Utah Grizzlies in Salt Lake City at 6 p.m. PDT. The series continues on the weekend with Game 4 on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. PDT and Game 5 goes on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. PDT. If necessary the series will return to Victoria for Games 6 and 7 on Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 7:05 p.m.
