Augusta Defeats Rome

Rome, GA -The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves 7-3 in front of 3,469 fans at State Mutual Stadium Saturday night. It was Rome's sixth straight loss to Augusta.

Pitching dominated the first four innings of the game. In the fifth, Charlie Culberson started things for Augusta with a ground rule double. Dom Duggan then grounded out to short sending Culberson to third and Josh Mazzola followed with a single to center to score Culberson giving the GreenJackets a 1-0 lead.

Augusta would break the game open in the sixth inning scoring five runs with four coming off of a Dom Duggan grand slam (3) for the 6-0 score. Rome scored one run in the bottom of the sixth when Chris Shehan reached first on a fielding error and Joel Campusano and Gerry Rodriguez both singled scoring Shehan for the 6-1 Augusta advantage.

Augusta scored another run in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Culberson. Rome added two runs in the bottom of the ninth when Calvin Culver walked and Matt Kennelly hit his first home run of the season. Augusta held on for the 7-3 victory.

Ari Ronick (5-4) gets the win for Augusta pitching six innings, giving up six hits, and only one run. Zeke Spruill (7-3) takes the loss for Rome.
