Owen Sound Attack News Release

A two goal performance from Aidan Dudas wasn't enough as the Attack fell to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, 7-4, and were eliminated from the playoffs 4-1.

The Owen Sound Attack were playing for their playoff lives tonight in Sault Ste. Marie, needing to get off to a strong start against the Greyhounds to have a chance. Down 3-1 in the series, the Bears were in for an uphill battle but the team was ready to embrace the underdog role.

Owen Sound started the 1st period well, getting the first four shots of the game on Matthew Villalta while playing a solid possession game and laying out some big hits. A scary moment came early when Daylon Groulx appeared to take an elbow from Greyhound defenseman Jordan Sambrook while finishing a hit. Groulx went to the locker room and did not return. A few minutes later, Aidan Dudas slid into the slot and buried a wrister past Villalta for the 1-0 lead. Two and a half minutes later, the Greyhounds would tie it up with overager Keeghan Howdeshell scoring his 4th of the series. The Attack would continue the strong play through the period and end the first twenty minutes ahead in shots 8-6.

Early in the 2nd, the Attack season looked like it was slipping away. After the Attack killed off a penalty to start the frame, the Greyhounds scored twice in 45 seconds to gain what looked like a daunting lead. Not yet ready to go into hibernation, Zach Poirier scored a minute later to cut the deficit to one. The breath of life was what the Attack needed and it seemed like the momentary lapse was behind them. Owen Sound continued to pressure the Sault net, but couldn't get anything past Villalta until 11 seconds remained in the period. Aidan Dudas scored his second of the game on an absolute rocket from the slot to tie things up at three with the period coming to an end.

20 minutes stood between a game 6 and the end of the Attack season. Groulx made his triumphant return from a first period injury and put in a rebound after Cade Robinson drove the net to give the Attack their second lead of the game, 4-3, at the 6:33 mark of the 3rd period. The Greyhounds responded immediately, tying it up less than 90 seconds later, and retaking the lead just over a minute after that. Suddenly the Attack found themselves trailing 5-4 with 10 minutes left in their season. The Attack had a late power play chance after Zach Poirier was tripped in the defensive zone, but couldn't convert on the man advantage. Head Coach Al Letang made the decision to pull Mack Guzda for the extra attacker, but Cole MacKay found the empty net and made it a 6-4 game. The Attack continued to push for another goal, but Howdeshell would score another empty netter to put the score to 7-4 and effectively end the Attack season.

Daylon Groulx was named the Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game. The Mac Taylor Corporation Three Stars were Tye Kartye, Aidan Dudas and Jaden Peca.

The Owen Sound Attack would like to thank all of our fans, sponsors, and supporters for a great 2018-19 season. The 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft will take place on Saturday, April 6th. The Attack have the 10th overall selection.
