Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA - Atlanta United today announced it has signed Mexican forward Daniel Ríos on loan from Liga MX side CD Guadalajara (Chivas) through the 2024 MLS season. The Chivas forward brings nearly 200 professional appearances with him. Ríos, who holds a green card, will occupy a supplemental roster spot.
"We have been looking to strengthen our depth in the attack and find a proven goal scorer who knows MLS," Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. "Daniel is a player we are familiar with from his previous stops in the league. Looking ahead to a busy summer with MLS, U.S. Open Cup and Leagues Cup, along with the potential to lose several players to both Euros and Copa America, we believe Daniel brings quality to our team and adds competition to the group."
The 29-year-old joins Atlanta after playing for Chivas in Liga MX where he made 19 appearances over the past two seasons. Prior to his move back to the Liga MX powerhouse, Ríos played in MLS with Nashville SC and Charlotte FC. He was Nashville SC's first-ever MLS signing and scored six goals in 33 total appearances. Prior to the 2022 season, Rios was traded to Charlotte FC where he made 30 appearances and scored nine goals across all competitions.
Ríos came up through the Chivas academy and made his professional debut in the 2015 Copa MX. After a couple of seasons with the U-20 and reserve teams at Chivas, Ríos made the move to the United States when he was loaned to North Carolina FC in USL. He finished the 2018 season with 20 goals, which was tied for second in the golden boot race. The following season, Ríos moved to Nashville SC and played in the team's final season in USL where he once again finished second in the golden boot race with 20 goals.
