"Since the beginning of preseason, our aim was to start our 50th anniversary year strong" said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer. "We are pleased that not only is the team performing well so far, but the fans and the city have also responded by supporting this team in a way that we have not seen for several years. We are looking forward to coming together again at BC Place and getting a big win to continue our momentum."

With seven points through the first three matches, Whitecaps FC are currently in second place in the MLS Western Conference, just three points out of first place with a game in hand. A victory would mark the best four-game start to an MLS season in club history.

The 'Caps have been in good form at both ends of the pitch, with only two goals conceded through three matches - their best defensive start since 2014. At the other end, six different players have scored the six goals to start the season, while the 'Caps lead MLS in shooting accuracy at 54.2 per cent of shots on target.

Saturday's match will also be a special occasion for Whitecaps FC forward Damir Kreilach. The Croatian spent six seasons with Real Salt Lake, leading the club in goals over that time and serving as captain over the last two seasons.

The 'Caps will also be looking at the return to the pitch of Canadian international wingback Sam Adekugbe, while midfielder Andrés Cubas (Paraguay) and forward Fafà Picault (Haiti) are away on international duty.
