Atlanta United FC News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - Atlanta United fell 1-0 to New York City FC Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena. Brad Guzan tied his season-high with six saves, however Atlanta saw its unbeaten streak end at five games.
Guzan was called into action early in the match and came up with a crucial save. Tayvon Gray played Jesus Medina into the box for a one-on-one opportunity, but Guzan rushed out to the penalty spot and blocked the shot off his chest.
Atlanta's best chance of the first half came in the 28th minute. George Bello received a pass on the left side in the attacking half and made a darting run towards the box. He slipped a pass into Erik López who ripped a left-footed shot that took a slight deflection, but Sean Johnson made a diving save to keep the match scoreless.
NYCFC took the lead in the 69th minute. Keaton Parks gathered an errant pass in the midfield and quickly found Valentín Castellanos running towards goal. Castellanos then played Ismael Tajouri-Shradi into the box, who was able to sneak a low shot past Guzan.
Atlanta made three second-half substitutions as it continued to search for an equalizing goal, bringing on Cubo Torres, Mo Adams and Jurgen Damm.
Atlanta (2-2-5, 11 points) returns to action Sunday, June 27 against New York Red Bulls at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (3:30 p.m. ET, Bally Sports South, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game, La Mejor).
