Ash Delivers As Outlaws Open DeHaan Era With a Victory

On a day the team returns on an overnight bus from their longest trip of the season, Kory DeHaan is named the new Outlaws manager, and he sees his team come alive late, scoring 7 unanswered runs from the 5th inning on to get a victory to open the 9 game homestand.

After a 2-6 roadtrip to begin the season's second-half, General Manager Curt Jacey shook things up today by relieving Greg Cadaret of his managerial duties. Admist the overhaul, newly annointed manager Kory DeHaan and a fatigued Outlaws team put together a great performance in a comeback victory over the Yuma Scorpions, winning 7-5 at Nettleton Stadium.

The Outlaws trailed 5-0 at the game's midway point, but began the comeback with a single tally in the bottom of the 5th, an RBI groundout from Jonny Ash. Trailing 5-1, starting pitcher Mikael Ryder would get retire Yuma quickly in the 6th, and carrying momentum back to the bat-rack, the Outlaws batted around and scored four runs to tie the ballgame at the end of 6 innings. Four consecutive singles started the 6th inning, and Truan Mehl, Jason Crosland and BJ Underkofler would all have RBI's in the inning to force the tie.

With the score knotted, Mikael Ryder would battle on in his second start of the season, blanking Yuma in th 7th and 8th to set the stage for the offense. In the 8th, the Outlaws first two men reached base as Truan Mehl leadoff with a walk and made it into third base on a Norm Hutchins double into the rightfield corner. With a man on third and no outs, the lead looked to be a certainty. But the Yuma bullpen would get an infield pop-up and strikeout to set the stage for Jonny Ash with two outs.

With two outs, and a count of 2-1, Jonny Ash lashed a line-drive to leftfield that fell in front of Yuma's Carlos Arroyo, allowing two go-ahead runs to score. Ash picked up three RBI on the night, finishing 2-for-4.

With a 7-5 lead, Jesse Oster came out of the bullpen for his first save opportunity of the season. Oster made it interesting, allowing two walks and a single, but with the bases-loaded, Oster got his second strikeout of the inning to close out the ballgame by fanning cleanup hitter Carlos Villalobos.

With the come from behind victory, the Outlaws won their 22nd ballgame of the season and their third in the season's second-half. Mikael Ryder went 8 innings to earn his third victory of the season. Oster gets his first save of the season, and Ash was the hero. Other offensive highlights came from a 3-for-5 night from Blake Gailen, Jason Crosland went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Truan Mehl went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, coming across in the 8th as the game-winning sixth run of the night.

The long homestand continues on Saturday night with game two of a three game set against the Yuma Scorpions. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm with gates opening at 6:00pm.
