Tucson Toros News Release

TUCSON, AZ - The Tucson Toros, (3-2) couldn't have written the script any better as Junior Spivey stepped into the lineup on Friday and gave the Toros a 6-5 win, with a one out, bases loaded, walk-off single at Hi Corbett Field.

Mayobanex Santana opened up the Toros half of the ninth with a clutch double and he was sacrificed to third by catcher Luis Apodaca. Victoria chose to intentionally walk the next two batters, setting the stage for Spivey, who was inked earlier in the day by the Toros.

Toros' starter, Lorenzo Barcelo, had a shaky start as he gave up back-to-back homeruns to the Seals first two batters. Barcelo settled down after the first inning as he sat down 13 consecutive batters before he gave way Rene Garcia who threw the eighth frame.

Reid Price, (2-1) earned the win, out of the bullpen, as he threw the ninth.

The Toros offense pounded out nine hits in the home win. Lino Garcia did the most damage at the plate as he went 2-3 and drove in four RBI.

Spivey had a solid effort, in his Toros debut, as he went 1-3, walked twice, scored one run and stole one base.

The two teams will play game two, of the three game series, tomorrow night at Hi Corbett Field. The game is set to start at 7:00 pm, with gates opening at 6:00.
