PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves made the following roster moves before tonight's 5:05 pm game against the Tennessee Smokies, which affects the Mississippi Braves roster. RHP Brandon White has been transferred to High-A Florida from Mississippi, RHP Jonathan Aro has been transferred to Mississippi from High-A Florida, LHP Kyle Muller has been placed on the 7-Day Injured List, RHP Ben Rowen has been transferred to Mississippi from Triple-A Gwinnett.
White, 24, made his Double-A debut last night against the Tennessee Smokies where he pitched two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and wal,k while striking out two.
The Chapin, South Carolina native has been a bullpen arm for Florida this season, recording three saves out of five save opportunities with opposing batters hitting .221 against White, allowing five earned runs on 33 hits. He has recorded 48 strikeouts while only walking 19 batters for a WHIP of 1.24.
The Atlanta Braves selected White in the 12th round of the 2016 draft out of Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. White was named the Mid-Season All-Star for the 2017 season for Low-A Rome and for the 2019 season for High-A Florida.
Aro, 28, has split the 2019 season between Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi where he has a season record of 6-1 with a 3.52 ERA (21 ER/53.2 IP).
At Mississippi, the La Vega, Dominican Republic native has a record of 3-1 with an ERA of 3.41 (13 ER/34.1 IP). Across his 17 appearances, Aro has struck out 25 batters while walking only nine, allowing 14 runs on 30 hits for a WHIP of 1.14.
In his last five appearances, Aro has allowed only three runs on nine hits, striking out four batters and walking three with opposing batters hitting .265 and recorded a save.
The Boston Red Sox signed Aro to a minor league contract in 2011 and was traded along with LHP Wade Miley to Seattle for RHP Carson Smith and LHP Roenis Elias in December 2015. San Diego signed Aro as a free agent to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training in November 2017. The Atlanta Braves acquired Aro as a free agent in February of 2019. Aro made his MLB debut on June 25, 2015 with the Boston Red Sox against Baltimore where he pitched for 1.1 innings where he allowed one earned run off of four hits.
Muller, 21, has been placed on the 7-Day Injured List due to a right calf strain that caused him to leave Friday night's game in the first inning after three pitches.
The Dallas, Texas native became the second Southern League pitcher and third in Double-A baseball to reach 100 strikeouts on July 4. Muller ranks sixth in the league with 120 strikeouts on the season and is seventh in innings pitched with 111.2. In his past four starts, Muller has not allowed an earned run on 11 hits, striking out 15 batters across 16.2 innings pitched.
The Atlanta Braves selected Muller in the 2nd round of the 2016 draft out of Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, Texas. Muller was named Pitcher of the Week this season on May 26th and was also named a Mid-Season All-Star this season.
Rowen, 30, has split the season between Triple-A Gwinnett and Mississippi, with a season record of 5-3 with an ERA of 3.68 (32 ER/78.1 IP).
The Virginia Tech product started the season at Mississippi where he pitched in relief for three games for a record of 1-0 and an ERA of 4.15 (2 ER/4.1 IP), allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four batters and walking two.
At Gwinnett, Rowen has pitched in 29 games, starting in six, and has a record of 4-3 with a 3.65 ERA (30 ER/74.0 IP). In his past 10 games, Rowen has allowed nine runs on 22 hits, striking out 16 while only walking three batters with opposing batters hitting .278 for a WHIP of 1.27.
The Texas Rangers selected Rowen in the 22nd round of the 2010 draft and was signed to the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent in January 2015. In April 2015, the Dodgers traded Rowen and C Chris O'Brien to the Baltimore Orioles for C Brian Ward and RHP Ryan Webb. In July 2015, the Chicago Cubs signed Rowen as a free agent to a minor league contract. In August 2015 the Toronto Blue Jay claimed Rowen from the Cubs off waivers. In August 2016, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed Rowen off waivers, and Rowen was then signed by the New York Mets as a free agent. In February 2018, the Cincinnati Reds signed Rowen as a free agent. The Atlanta Braves acquired Rowen in February 2019. Rowen made his Major League Debut on June 15, 2014 for the Texas Rangers where he pitched a scoreless inning against the Seattle Mariners.
The Braves continue their five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies tonight at Trustmark Park. LHP Phil Pfeifer (1-1, 4.91) will start for the M-Braves and will face RHP Jake Stinnett (1-2, 5.14) for the Smokies.
