Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Derek Arnold of the Waterloo Black Hawks has earned the United States Hockey League's Reebok Forward of the Week Award, the USHL announced on Monday.
Arnold appeared in all three Black Hawks games last week and had two points in each. At home Wednesday against the Sioux City Musketeers, he scored twice, including the game-winning goal in a 3-2 Black Hawks victory. Friday and Saturday in Fargo, Arnold had two assists each night against the Force. He is currently enjoying the USHL's longest active point streak, having recorded a goal or assist in 14 consecutive games. In 50 appearances this season, the Foxboro, Massachusetts native has 19 goals and 32 assists for 51 points, accompanied by a +15 plus-minus rating.
"He has been unbelievable," said Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley in an interview last week. "I think his play has been remarkable and certainly a big reason for us having success recently."
Arnold is the second Black Hawk forward to be recognized as a USHL Player of the Week, joining Brock Montpetit who has been awarded the honor twice. Defensemen Zach Palmquist and Dan Sova have each previously won the league's CCM Defensive Player of the Week Award, while Goalie C.J. Motte is a three-time winner of Goaltender of the Week recognition. Former Hawk Steve Racine was also a Goalie of the Week while in Waterloo, and current Black Hawk netminder Willie Yanakeff won the honor earlier this season as a Sioux City Musketeer.
The Black Hawks travel to Lincoln Tuesday to meet the Lincoln Stars at 7:05. Waterloo returns home to Young Arena on Friday and Saturday, first hosting the Green Bay Gamblers, then Team USA, both at 7:05.
