
Herd Travel To Des Moines This Weekend

Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
The Stampede continue their five-game road trip this weekend with a pair of games at Des Moines, Friday and Saturday night. The Stampede enter the week 27-12-11 on the season and in third place in the West Division, five points behind Fargo for second. The Stampede have not faced the Buccaneers since opening night when the Herd fell 4-3 in a shootout.
The Stampede earned five of a possible six points over the weekend. Last Thursday, the Herd blanked Chicago 2-0 before defeating the U.S. Under-18 Development Program 7-2 on Saturday. The Herd completed the weekend with a 5-4 shootout loss to the U.S. Under-17 Development Program on Sunday.
Stampede Magic Number 4
The Stampede's magic number to clinch a berth in the 2010 Clark Cup Playoffs is 4. Any combination of Stampede wins and/or Sioux City losses totaling 4 points will clinch a spot in the playoffs for the Herd! The top four teams in each division qualify for the playoffs.
The Stampede have made the playoffs in each of the last four seasons. The first round of the playoffs begin the week of April 5th.
Allen Named USHL Defensive Player of the Week
Stampede defenseman Conor Allen was named USHL Defensive Player-of-the-Week on Monday. Allen registered a goal and an assist and finished the weekend a plus-4. Allen tallied the eventual game winning goal in Saturday's 7-2 win over the U.S. Development Program. It marked the second time this season Allen has earned the award.
B2 Networks Viewing Party Friday Night!
This Friday, March 12th is the fourth and final B2 Networks "Stampede Viewing Party" at Buffalo Wild Wings. Watch the Stampede battle the Des Moines Buccaneers starting at 7 PM on all the TV Big Screens.
Fans will also have an opportunity to win special Stampede prizes and tickets throughout the night!
Former Stampede Forwards Broadhurst & Tropp Earn Awards
Former Stampede forward Corey Tropp was named MVP of the Michigan State Spartans hockey team. In addition, Tropp was given the Outstanding Offensive Player Award. Tropp, a junior, leads the Spartans in scoring with 42 points (20g, 22a) in 36 games. The Grosse Pointe, MI native ranks 12th nationally in scoring and is tied for 10th in goals. Tropp is an "Assistant Captain" with the Spartans this season.
Tropp and the Spartans face arch-rival Michigan this weekend in a best-of-three CCHA quarterfinal playoff series.
Meanwhile, former Stampede forward Terry Broadhurst has been named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team. In his first year at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Broadhurst has posted nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in conference play, placing him in a tie for fifth place in freshman scoring.
Broadhurst was named CCM CCHA Rookie of the Week on two occasions and tied for second in game-winning goals among rookies (2), tied for 12th overall. He was one of two freshmen to net a hat trick in CCHA play this season.
The Mavericks swept Bowling Green in the first round of the CCHA playoffs and have advanced to the quarterfinals where they will face Ferris State. Zach Redmond, a former Stampede defenseman and junior a Ferris State, is fourth on the Bulldogs in scoring and is the top scoring defenseman on the team with 25 points (6g, 19a) in 36 games. Redmond has been serving as team "Captain" all year for the Bulldogs.
Peluso Traded to Toronto Maple Leafs
Former Stampede defenseman Chris Peluso has been acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in a NHL trade deadline deal last week. The Maple Leafs received Peluso from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 6th round draft pick in the 2010 NHL draft. Peluso was originally drafted by the Penguins in 2004.
Peluso is a senior at Bemidji State University where he has seven assists and a plus-4 rating for the Beavers who took home the CHA regular season championship and are ranked 8th in the country. They will face Niagara in the semi-finals of the CHA tournament this weekend.
Former Stampede head and assistant coach Ted Belisle is an assistant coach with the Beavers.
