Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - James Pugliese and two relievers combined on a three-hit shutout, as the Boise Hawks won their second-straight game, stopping the Yakima Bears, 5-0, at Memorial Stadium.
Pugliese tossed five innings of one-hit ball, walking two, and striking out five - picking up his first win of the year. The right-hander worked out of a two-on, no-out jam in the fourth - the only time in the game that Yakima had a runner reach third.
Boise grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the first on a Willson Contreras RBI single, pushing the lead to 2-0 an inning later on a Marco Hernandez run-scoring base hit. Trey Martin hit his third homer of the season in the fourth to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead, as the hosts added single runs in the fifth and eighth innings to cap the scoring.
Martin went 3-for-3 in the victory, with Hernandez going 2-for-5 with two RBI, and both Contreras and Rock Shoulders adding two hits. Kyle Owings took the loss for the Bears, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
The Hawks go for the series sweep tomorrow night, as Tayler Scott meets Alex Carreras at 7:15 p.m.
