SPRINGFIELD, MA FEB. 10, 2011 - Scottie Reynolds scored a game-high 20 points, Gavin Edwards added a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds and the Springfield Armor blew open a close game in the fourth quarter to upend the Maine Red Claws 96-86 in front of 3,904 fans at the MassMutual Center in Springfield tonight.
The Armor entered the final quarter with just a two-point advantage, but Reynolds and Edwards sparked a 15-2 run to begin the quarter, giving the Armor their largest lead of the game at 15.
Springfield got strong contributions from the frontcourt, as Jarvis Gunter notched his best line of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds and the Armor out-rebounded the Red Claws 51-31. The Armor also grabbed 20 offensive rebounds to the Red Claws' four.
The 86 points the Armor surrendered in the game was the fewest points the team has allowed since the Armor's home opener on Nov. 26th when the Armor topped the Red Claws 88-85.
DeShawn Sims recored a double-double (19 points, 13 rebounds) for the Red Claws and Tiny Gallon and Jamar Smith finished with 16 apiece.
While the Armor offense was heating up, their defense was just as impressive. Springfield held Maine scoreless for the first seven and a half minutes of the fourth quarter and forced 20 turnovers on the evening.
With the win, the Armor snap a six-game losing streak and improve to 10-21 on the season. The Red Claws fall to 12-21 with the defeat and now lead the season series with the Armor 4-3.
