MCALLEN, TEXAS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced Thursday that they have waived small forward Stanley Asumnu (6-5, 220, Tennessee).

The Vipers' all-time leader in games played (141), Asumnu averaged 8.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 20.6 minutes while making 33 starts. Cut out of the Vipers' first training camp in November 2007, Asumnu joined the team one month later, appearing in 38 games (three starts) and averaging 8.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

During the 2008-09 season, Asumnu averaged a career-high 10.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 24.4 minutes in 47 games (20 starts). He missed the final three games of that season due to a broken nose.

Asumnu averaged 7.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 39 games (10 starts) during the 2009-10 season. Perhaps his biggest contribution came during Game 2 of the NBADL Finals, when he scored six points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of baskets that tied to game, to fuel a rally as the Vipers came back to win 94-91 and sweep the Tulsa 66ers for the Championship. He averaged 7.5 points and 2.4 rebounds in eight playoff games.

This season, Asumnu was averaging 4.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 9.6 minutes in 17 games off the bench. He missed the last six games with an ankle injury.
