Arkansas Takes Opener Behind Season-High Seven Doubles

May 27, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release

San Antonio was held to just six hits during a 7-1 loss to Arkansas Friday night in the series opener at Wolff Stadium.

The night started off well for the Missions as Auston Bousfield began the bottom of the first with a homer onto the berm off right-hander Jordan Kipper. It was the third homer of 2016 for Bousfield and the first homer to lead off a game for San Antonio this season.

Unfortunately, for the Missions, the game quickly changed in the top of the second when the Travs plated a pair of runs off right-hander Luis Diaz. Arkansas pushed its lead to 4-1 an inning later with an Eric Aquilera RBI double and a Jabari Henry RBI single.

The Travs knocked out Diaz (2-5) in the seventh with Chad Hinshaw's two-run double down the left-field line. Diaz allowed a career-high 12 hits in his six plus innings, striking out four against one walk.

Arkansas capped scoring in the ninth with an Aquilera double, his third of the night. The Travs finished with a season-high seven two-baggers in the contest.

Kipper (5-2) allowed just the one early run on five hits and two walks, while striking out three over six and two-thirds innings. Relievers Edward Paredes, Austin Adams and D.J. Johnson wrapped up the rest of the game for Arkansas, combining to allow just one hit.

San Antonio (15-32) resumes its three-game series with Arkansas (20-28) Saturday at 7:05 PM. Bryan Rodriguez (2-4, 3.97) will get the ball for the Missions. The Travs have yet to name a starter. Following the game there will be a special fireworks show courtesy of North Park Toyota.

Notes: Mike Olt (2-for-4) pushed his club, season-high on-base streak to 22 games. Nick Schulz (2-for-4) also picked up a multi-hit game for the Missions.
