Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release

Outfielder Aristides Aquino was promoted to the Cincinnati Reds as announced by the Blue Wahoos parent club this afternoon. Aquino had turned a corner offensively with the Blue Wahoos and was hitting .260 in both July and August. He belted 9 home runs over that stretch bringing his season total up to a franchise record 18. Since the all-star break he was hitting .267 with 9 home runs and 27 RBI. For the year, he hit .249 with 49 RBI, one shy of the team high.

The move comes as a result of 1B Joey Votto being placed on the disabled list. When Aquino appears in a game he will be the seventh Red to make his Major League debut this season, six of those are former Blue Wahoos (IF/OF Alex Blandino, RHP Tanner Rainey, RHP Zack Weiss, IF/OF Brandon Dixon, RHP Jesús Reyes).

In a corresponding move, OF Malik Collymore has been promoted from advanced-A Daytona. He has split his season between the Tortugas and low-A Dayton. With Daytona he's hit .243 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI. He signed with the Reds as a minor league free agent in May 2017. Collymore was originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 10th round of the 2013 draft.

Transaction Notice: OF Aristides Aquino promoted to MLB Cincinnati; OF Malik Collymore transferred from Hi-A Daytona.
